We were quite surprised with the results of our latest poll – “Would you draw without a command line?”. We thought that only a few people would work without a command line, but the results were refreshing.
- 34% said they would draw without a command line.
- 66% said they can’t work without it.

I’ve commented on your observations on my own blog.
We have hundreds of thousands of drawings. The biggest problem in dealing with that lot is revision control in sets of drawings that share xrefs. Where the drawings are standalone, it’s not a problem. Xrefs make it much trickier.
At least for me, any of the options that you have given, are necessary.
